Temporary A9 junction to support Cross Tay Link Road construction

General News

Construction has started on a new temporary access junction off the southbound A9 to service construction of the new Cross Tay Link Road.

The junction, one mile north of the Inveralmond roundabout, will provide day-to-day access for workers, equipment and material deliveries needed to build the new crossing over the River Tay.

This is the only designated site access route for general site traffic into this area of the project and was carefully chosen to minimise any disruption to the wider area and traffic movements.

The Cross Tay Link Road project involves the construction of a new 3-span bridge over the River Tay and six kilometres of new road linking the A9 and the A93 to Blairgowrie and the A94 north of Scone. It also includes the realignment of two kilometres of dual carriageway on the A9 just north of Inveralmond Roundabout.

The new road will significantly reduce traffic congestion and related pollution in Perth city centre, and will open areas for sustainable development. It is the largest infrastructure project Perth and Kinross Council have ever undertaken and is being constructed by BAM Nuttall Ltd.

‘Although the vast bulk of construction traffic will use this access road a very small number of discrete deliveries of larger equipment required to support the bridge construction operations will be brought to site via the Luncarty junction, Scarth Road and Fairview,’ said BAM Nuttall’s project director, William Diver.

‘We will be carrying out a letter drop to affected residents in this area over the coming days providing further information, and will be attending the local community council meeting with members of our team to provide an update on the project and discuss any issues.’

This temporary access junction will be operational until the new A9 alignment is complete in mid 2023 and it is not expected to cause any additional traffic disruption during its operation.

The Luncarty, Redgorton and Moneydie Community Council meeting will take place meeting on 23 August at 19:30 in the Church Centre, Marshall Way, Luncarty.
