Destiny Bridge and the New Kingsway win Transport Infrastructure Project of the Year at the prestigious Scottish Civil Engineering Awards 2025

Perth & Kinross Council, together with BAM UK & Ireland, Sweco UK Limited, Arup and Fairhurst, are celebrating success after Destiny Bridge and the New Kingsway — initially known as the Cross Tay Link Road project — was named Transport Infrastructure Project of the Year at the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards 2025.

The landmark development, which has delivered improvements to city centre pollution and connectivity in Perth, was recognised by the judging panel as “an outstanding roads and bridge project that illustrated excellence in innovation, procurement, design, community engagement and partnership working within the client/contractor and design team.”

Delivered on time and within budget, the £150 million scheme is the largest infrastructure investment ever undertaken by Perth & Kinross Council. It reduces congestion, improves air quality, and opens up new opportunities for sustainable travel and economic growth.

The project is also recognised as a national exemplar in low-carbon construction, achieving a 51,000 tCO2e reduction through innovative procurement and design. Beyond engineering, it has created a legacy with new wetlands, a green bridge, and 12km of active travel routes.

Over the lifetime of the project, £33.8m was spent in Perth and Kinross, with the Scotland wide figure reaching £79.1m. In addition to this, more than £44m of social and economic value was generated locally.

Jillian Ferguson, Roads Infrastructure Manager at Perth & Kinross Council, commented, “This award is fantastic recognition of the collaboration, commitment and expertise that went into the delivery of Destiny Bridge and the New Kingsway. The project is not only about new infrastructure; it’s about creating cleaner air and better-connected communities across Perth and Kinross.”

William Diver, Project Director at BAM UK & Ireland, added: “We are incredibly proud to have worked in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council and our design team colleagues to deliver a project of this scale and significance. This award reflects the strength of collaboration, innovation and shared vision that made Destiny Bridge and the New Kingsway such a success.”

The award underlines the importance of strong partnership working between local authorities, contractors and designers, and highlights Perth and Kinross as a region delivering best-in-class infrastructure for Scotland’s future.
